ABOUT ETOWN AUGMENTED

ETown Augmented is a non-auditioned vocal ensemble for adults who wish to learn learn how to sing a cappella pop music. Talented vocal coaches for each section (Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass) help instruct, mentor and guide its members through a musical journey regardless of prior singing experience.

This choir was created for singers of various abilities and experience to come together for music learning, as well as a positive social experience. This choir differs from the traditional choral format, which normally includes a piano accompanist, instead forming an entirely a cappella choir. By removing any accompaniment, we train the singers to rely on each other more and to be more independently stable with their tuning. Additionally, by having a vocal coach for each section, the other singers have a voice they can model themselves after instead of just trying to match pitch with a piano. By the end of each season, there is a marked improvement in the skill, tuning, and confidence of our singers.

Many of the songs that ETown Augmented performs are arranged in house by our ultra talented coaches to take advantage of the choir’s unique vocal styles and musical interests. Often other a cappella choirs will sing the same repertoires, since there are only so many popular published arrangements. All published arrangements are not created equally, and there are many published pop arrangements which are not as good as they could be or don’t match the vocal range or composition of the choirs. With the artistic staff in control of all of the details in each arrangement, we can make sure that the difficulty levels are suitable for our singers, and that the repertoire is exactly the music that our members want to be singing, rather than simply the arrangements we were able to buy.

Interested in Joining?

The seasons for our ETown Augmented group are split into two cycles, with each one culminating in a concert.

At the beginning of each cycle we offer an open rehearsal so new members can try it out before joining, but we also will accept registrations throughout the year.
